Thai Pongal &Tamil Heritage Month Celebration of BTSA

January 19 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Thai Pongal is a most auspicious festival celebrated by the Tamils worldwide including the Canadian Tamils. It is specially a festival of Thanksgiving to God for the abundant blessings, bestowed on mankind as a whole. The Tamils begin the day with a thanksgiving offering to God in the name of “Pongal.” It is celebrated in diverse ways with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm. It also reflects their glorious cultural traditions and promotes the values of sharing, generosity, and goodwill among the people by wishing and exchanging gifts, which binds them together.

January is an important month for Tamils both in Canada and worldwide. Federal, Provincial and City of Brampton officially recognized January as Tamil Heritage Month in recognition of the valuable contributions that Tamil Canadians have made to Canada’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric.

We are unique in meeting every Monday at the Gore Meadows Community center and provide activities which bring seniors who are in isolation, lonely, disable etc to meet other seniors in the community to share, mingle, learn computers and build up a network of friends and mentor others in community volunteering etc.
