Join us for this dynamic panel discussion featuring law students and lawyers from the Tamil community. This event will canvas topics ranging from: getting into law school; how to make the most of your law school career; mental health in law school and in practice; how you can play a role in contributing to positive change for marginalized communities in Sri Lanka; and much more.

10AM-10:30: Registration, Breakfast and Networking

10:30 – 11:30AM: First Panel – Getting into Law School
Our first panel consists of presently-enrolled law students from various Canadian and international law schools and will cover:
– Things to consider when applying to law school;
– How to submit a strong law school application;
– Grades and extra-curriculars in undergrad;
– Writing the LSAT; and
– Options outside of Canada and the process of transitioning back into Canada.

11:45-12:45PM: Second Panel – Navigating Law School
Join us for this panel discussion with experienced law students as they discuss their experiences in law school, both positive and negative, including:
– Grades and riding the law school curve;
– Getting the most out of law school;
– OCIs and preparing for the legal job market;
– Issues and challenges as a racialized law student;
– Social life and networking; and
– Self-care and mental health.

12:45-1:30PM: Lunch & Networking

1:30-2:30PM: Third Panel – The Practice of Law
Practicing lawyers in various areas of the law, including Bay St., Government and Public Interest, discuss their experiences in the law, including:
– Issues specific to their practice area;
– Issues and challenges in the practice of law, generally;
– Work-life balance, self-care and mental health; and
– Giving back to the community at home and/or abroad, while in practice.

2:30-3:30PM: Networking and Wrap-Up
